Desert Traces
October 20 – November 10, 2012
THE Gallery
Be-eri, Israel
This exhibition was part of a collective exchange of work, ideas and cultural perspectives on place with Agripas 12 Gallery in Jerusalem and Eye Lounge: A Contemporary Art Space in Phoenix. It was sponsored by the ASU Art Museum Desert Initiative and featured artist lectures, exhibitions in both galleries, traveling shows and publication in Jerusalem’s arts program guide.
NOTE:
This particular gallery is located in the southern region of Israel in the Negev Desert on a kibbutz. The kibbutz is located bout 10 miles from the Gaza border. When I visited this gallery to participate in a gallery talk with the curator I was invited to stay with them for two days. I stayed in a “bombproof” home that was 6ft of concrete on all sides with a metal overhang on the window to deflect incoming rockets. The day after I left this kibbutz and the gallery were sprayed with rockets in a Battleship mode from Gaza.
Sponsored by Agripas 12 Gallery, Eye Lounge: A Contemporary Art Space and ASU Art Museum Desert Initiative.
